Subscription Box #Review: J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World

I love Harry Potter. I have a Harry Potter tattoo and so much Harry Potter merchandise that my room is practically the Ravenclaw Tower. So when LootCrate announced their specific Harry Potter themed bimonthly subscription box, I hit subscribe so fast I broke a nail (no seriously). I got the first box and thought I'd let you know whether or not it is worth buying and subscribing to or if it is a pass. This will spoil the contents of the box, but since they came almost a month ago, I'm not actually that sorry about it.

Just so everyone knows, I live in Canada, so the prices and such that I am going to talk about are in Canadian Dollars and shipping times are international from the US to Canada as well.

How Often Does It Come?

Every Two Months

I do wish it was more frequent but I feel like I do not need a monthly box of Harry Potter things. That would be Too Much. My mom would kick me out.

Price?

Each Crate: $66.95
Three Crates Over Six Months: $196.83

Six Crates Over A Year: $385.63

I subscribed for the whole year, which dropped the price per crate by about $3. Not a huge savings but I knew I wanted to get all of them so it did not matter to me about the cost per crate. However, if you are cost saving or budgeting, this might not be the box for you. It is almost $20 a crate more than the regular LootCrate and you get the LootCrate every month. The trade off is this is ALL Harry Potter things instead of a medley of fandoms.

Shipping Time?

They say usually about 10-20 days for international boxes once they ship them out. They ship on the 15th of the month that you get the box, so you should have it by the end of the month provided your post office is doing it's thing properly.

This first box took 10 days to get to me from the time they shipped it to when it arrived on my front porch. However, you can only track international shipping from when it leaves the US to when it reaches the destination country.

Ordering Process?

The really cool thing about this crate is that when you order, it asks you not only your shirt size, which can be Men's or Women's and goes to 3XL, but also asks you your Hogwarts house. While this box did not have anything specific for Houses, I assume that in the future there will be something house themed and you can get your house instead of just the popular ones (aka Gryffindor and Slytherin). For a Ravenclaw, that was really fantastic for me and I'm sure Hufflepuffs will agree as well.

It's also a really simple process. LootCrate is a huge company and knows what they are doing in terms of making it easy for their customers to pay and proceed through the checkout. I'm 99% sure you can pay via PayPal which is nice if you're concerned about secure checkout.

What's Inside?

This is the section y'all care about so I'll get to it.

First, the box is super cool. It is a fairly large box, considering the regular LootCrate boxes, and it has a really cool outside design + seal which made me really excited to open it.

On top was the T-Shirt that is Fantastic Beast specific. It is the front page of "The New York Ghost" which is a cool play on words there. The T-shirts that LootCrate uses are great. They are soft, easy to wash, and not too skin tight. You don't feel like you're in a body condom in their shirts, which is nice.

Underneath the T-shirt you find other goodies including...

A Funko Pop! You could have gotten one of a variety of the Fantastic Beasts Funkos in the box, but I got the Niffler. Because of the way that it was packaged, my Funko box is perfectly in tact and in mint condition, which I enjoy as I typically leave my Funkos in the box.

There is also a plush Pigwideon, Ron's owl from the OGHP. It comes in a plastic bag so it doesn't get too ruffled and it is easy to open this bag without ruining the toy inside.

As well, there is a Harry Potter themed keychain that has a variety of charms hanging off of it. This is also inside of a plastic bag, which keeps it safe but is easy to open. My one complaint is that it is a pretty heavy keychain which will weigh down my lanyard and purse if I decide to use it.

There is a bowtruckle pink as well. This too is in a plastic bag but is easy to open. It is on a piece of cardboard so you can display it using that or use it as a pin itself. It has a butterfly clutch on it so it might be difficult to attach it to a bag if you put pins on there but would be easy to wear on a shirt. However, it too is quite heavy so I would try it out on your clothing/bag around the house first before venturing out into the wild or you might accidentally lose it.

Finally there is a Magic Congress of the United States of America notebook at the very bottom. It is inside a plastic sheath, which is easy to remove. It has a bookmark attached for you to put inside which is nice and is filled with blank pages. I think I may use it for bullet journaling!

The list of items that LootCrate typically gives inside of a booklet is done on a piece of "scroll" that is inside a small box and "sealed" with a sticker. It is easy to remove this sticker to read the list and put it back on to keep it safely inside this box. Just be sure to take your time and be careful so you don't accidentally rip it.

The one thing I was a little disappointed about was the inside of the box. LootCrate has such cool designs on the inside of their boxes -- in fact I would say that is what they are most known for -- so while the "lid" portion is really interesting, the rest was a bit disappointing. I was hoping for more so hopefully next month's design will WOW me.

Was It Worth It?

I'm torn. There were a couple non Fantastic Beasts items in there which was nice but I would have liked the focus not to be about marketing for the new but celebrating the old. I think that there can be a balance between the two but this box didn't necessarily find it. I am hopeful for the future -- and I have a year long subscription so I am in it for the long haul -- so I will keep you posted. I would say if you're a fan of the original seven books, I would hold off for another month to see if it continues to be Fantastic Beasts dominated or if it changes to be more of the Wizarding World as a whole. Check back in February if you want to know from me but I'm sure others will be updating about contents and worthiness. However, for the price? I think it was worth it. This box had a lot of things in it, probably about $80-90 worth, so for the shipping to be included and the amount, I think it was worth it from a purely financial perspective.

What subscription boxes do you get? Are you going to pick up this one?
