Mission: Open Letter to KRISTY ACEVEDO and CONSIDER

Dearest Kristy Acevedo,
I am writing this letter to you in praise of everything you do. I found out about your book CONSIDER via the Fledgling Authors Chat way back in July 2015 and since then have been waiting in eager anticipation to read your book. Luckily enough, you posted the first chapter as part of your cover reveal which made me giddy with excitement.

I think one of the best parts of all this is that your book is science fiction and seems like it will have a lot of those aspects in this novel. I am hoping that there is at least one instance that has a cheesy, classic science fiction feel, one instance that makes me want to lose my mind because I am nervous that this COULD happen to me in the near future, and one instance where I am like "YAS SLAY ALEX". But mostly, I am excited to feel as though I am living in your book and your world because the main character will be just like me.

The synopsis of your book mentions that the main character, Alexandra, has an anxiety disorder. That was enough for me. As someone who suffers from terrible anxiety (and has to deal with it every day), I knew I needed to read your book. In fact, I have it preordered from two different locations in hopes one of them gets to me faster than the other. I can't wait to see how Alexandra has to struggle with her own problems while still facing the invading holograms situation. Because if she can deal with that, I can deal with anything. (Except maybe phoning the doctor's office. That might still be a little too much for me.)

I just wanted to thank you for writing this novel. Even though I haven't read your novel yet (I can't believe how far away April 2016 is...), I know in my soul that this is going to be my next favourite series. I can only hope that other people feel this way too.

Sincerely Yours,
Jamie V.K.
CONSIDER
Author: Kristy Acevedo
Series: HoloSeries #1
Publisher: JollyFish Press
Publication Date: April 19, 2016
Summary:
As if Alexandra Lucas’ anxiety disorder isn’t enough, mysterious holograms suddenly appear from the sky, heralding the end of the world. They bring an ultimatum: heed the warning and step through a portal-like vertex to safety, or stay and be destroyed by a comet they say is on a collision course with earth. How’s that for senior year stress?

The holograms, claiming to be humans from the future, bring the promise of safety. But without the ability to verify their story, Alex is forced to consider what is best for her friends, her family, and herself.

To stay or to go. A decision must be made.

With the deadline of the holograms’ prophecy fast approaching, Alex feels as though she is living on a ticking time bomb, until she discovers it is much, much worse.

  1. I've seen Consider pop up on Goodreads a few times, but I haven't really looked into it too much. Oops.

Although I'm not a huge science fiction fan, I read a few titles a year, and Consider seems very unique. I'll be reading it one of these days. :)

  2. Whoa that sounds pretty amazing. I love it when characters are going through tough things in life and suddenly crap like the end of the world starts appearing - it adds a little spice to the story!

  5. Dear Jamie,

I am flattered and humbled by your open letter. It's my first real piece of fan mail, and it's amazing to know that someone in Canada is waiting to read my book.

CONSIDER might just meet many of your expectations. It has several sci-fi references to Doctor Who & Star Trek. It even has a silly Harry Potter scene (yes, I had to...)

But more important, the story serves as a character study of Alexandra, her family, and her friends, and how they each deal in an impossible situation.

As you mentioned, Alexandra suffers from GAD and panic attacks throughout the book. Since I have close relatives with different types of anxiety disorders, I've witnessed them struggle and mistakenly think that it's a sign of weakness; I wanted to show them how strong they, and you, really are.

My goal was to create a female main character who deals with anxiety and becomes the hero of the story. I am so happy to hear that you are already connecting with her character. She was made for you.

Thank you so much for your enthusiasm and openness in sharing your own story. You made me less nervous and more excited to get this thing published.

    Sincerely,
    Kristy Acevedo, author of CONSIDER

  7. Jamie, you are a Strong Independent...not so black...Woman!

Also, I love this idea and this special forces team! But I'm not going to join it because I already steal so much from you... your love, your guest posts, your blog tours. Lol. I'm like an annoying little sister, except I'm OLDER THAN YOU. THE HORROR.
