The Blinding Knife (Lightbringer #2) by Brent Weeks

The Blinding Knife (Lightbringer #2) by Brent Weeks

Goodreads Synopsis
Gavin Guile is dying.

He’d thought he had five years left—now he has less than one. With fifty thousand refugees, a bastard son, and an ex-fiancée who may have learned his darkest secret, Gavin has problems on every side. All magic in the world is running wild and threatens to destroy the Seven Satrapies.

Worst of all, the old gods are being reborn, and their army of color wights is unstoppable. The only salvation may be the brother whose freedom and life Gavin stole sixteen years ago.

I gotta say, as much as I enjoyed this one more than The Black Prism, I am rating it the same. Because I wasn't a fan of giving the reader the idea that something was going to happen and going in the opposite direction just for shits and giggles, basically. And that happened two or three times in this one, in my opinion.

I thought the new characters introduced were enough to switch up the plot a bit into a new direction. But at the same time I am not a fan of the direction this one went it. I thought there was a lot more action and less info dumping which made it infinitely more interesting than The Black Prism.

I liked the turn that Liv took in this one and I hope we get to see more from her pov in the next one as well. I think it is interesting to see things from both sides of the story because we get to see more of the "Truth" and make decisions for ourselves. I am excited to see where the story goes from here, especially with the cliffhanger!

Overall: 4/5 stars. What a sequel and what a cliffhanger. The characters and the world only got more interesting and even better developed. While a lot of fantasy sequels fall short or take too long to develop into the main plot, that does not happen in this series. Definitely a recommendation for anyone who likes fantasy/magic books.
